International Women's Day: Spotlight on Jagoda Stepniewska
For International Women's Day, we are celebrating women's achievements and, in particular, shining the spotlight on our brilliant new generation of solicitors who qualified at the start of the year. In a series of articles across the week, we ask for their thoughts and motivations for becoming solicitors and their aspirations for the future. The latest instalment features Jagoda Stepniewska, a Conveyancing Solicitor specialising in sales and purchases of freehold and leasehold properties, transfers of equity, remortgages, Help to Buy Redemptions, New builds, and Right to Buy purchases.
What made you decide to go into property law?
I always wanted to do property as it is an area that is sometimes undervalued. Many people say that moving home is one of the most stressful things in life, so the added pressure of needing to sell/buy a property can be overwhelming. I wanted to work within property to make the process as smooth as possible and reassure clients that their matter will be handled with the utmost care and professionalism so they have one less stress to worry about.
What has stood out in your journey to becoming a solicitor?
The last couple of years in conveyancing has been busy across the sector due to the Stamp Duty Land Tax holiday, which has equipped me with the skills and pace needed in my career. This prepared me for the transition from a Trainee to Solicitor.
What are your hopes and aspirations for the future?
I plan to expand my knowledge in further areas in conveyancing, including lease extensions, shared ownership, and commercial property.
What do you think sets you apart?
I always aim to respond to clients and answer questions within the same working day. I provide clients with as much information and guidance as possible throughout the process to meet their needs and keep them fully updated at all stages.
What are your thoughts on Watkins Solicitors' ability to provide an inclusive work culture where women's careers thrive, and their achievements are celebrated?
The firm provides not only equal opportunities but also great flexibility, which is particularly important for employees with children as it allows them to continue to progress in their careers whilst also maintaining a family life.
