Watkins Solicitors Marks the End of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence with Launch of the Court Guide for Survivors of Domestic Abuse

Today marks the final day of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, an important global campaign dedicated to raising awareness and taking action to support survivors. Throughout this period, Watkins Solicitors has been actively involved in initiatives aimed at making a meaningful impact. Providing compassionate, expert legal advice and supporting survivors remains central to our work.

Working with Local Partners to Support Survivors

The campaign began with our team attending the NextLink Domestic Violence Vigil, a powerful event that brought together survivors, advocates, and professionals to highlight the ongoing fight against domestic abuse. Sophie, Daisy, Marwah, and Priscilla represented Watkins Solicitors, standing in solidarity with attendees.

Catherine Haworth, Head of Domestic Abuse at Watkins Solicitors, actively participated in key events throughout the campaign. These included the Hereford White Ribbon Annual Conference and a talk on the "Cut It Out" initiative in Leominster, which fosters open conversations about recognising and addressing domestic abuse. Catherine also joined International Family Law Solicitor Andy Kerese at the West Mercia Women’s Aid Inclusion Event in Hereford, where Watkins Solicitors offered free legal advice to survivors. This event also featured an inspiring performance by the WMWA choir, composed of volunteers and survivors of domestic abuse.

Launch of the Court Guide for Survivors of Domestic Abuse

A key achievement during the campaign was the launch of the Court Guide for Survivors of Domestic Abuse. Developed in collaboration with local lawyers, District Judge Webb, the Voices charity, and the University of the West of England, this guide offers essential information to empower survivors navigating the court process.

Speaking about the guide, Catherine Haworth, Head of Domestic Abuse at Watkins Solicitors, said:

“This guide represents months of collaborative effort and is a much-needed resource for survivors who may feel overwhelmed when taking legal action. It will provide clarity and support during what is often an incredibly challenging time.”

We are pleased to have played a significant role in developing this resource, which we believe will make a positive difference in the lives of many survivors.

Ongoing Efforts to Drive Change

Throughout the year, Watkins Solicitors has made substantial efforts to support survivors beyond the 16 Days of Activism. Highlights include our successful annual Domestic Abuse Conference, ongoing outreach clinics, and a fundraising quiz for NextLink. Catherine also hosted daily Q&A sessions during the campaign, creating a safe and accessible space for victims to seek advice.
