  • Posted

On 11th October, Watkins Solicitors proudly hosted our third Domestic Abuse Conference in Bristol, an all-day event that brought together professionals from across various sectors to share knowledge, experiences, and strategies to tackle domestic abuse.

Organised by Watkins Solicitors and chaired by Beverley Watkins, our Managing Partner, the conference was held at the Watershed in Bristol. The event welcomed solicitors, barristers, social workers, NHS staff, police officers, charity workers, and representatives from local authorities and housing associations. This multi-agency gathering aimed to provide practical advice, raise awareness, and inspire change in the ongoing battle against domestic abuse.

Also in attendance was Catherine Haworth, Head of our Domestic Abuse Unit, along with the domestic abuse team. The team actively engaged with delegates throughout the day, reinforcing the importance of cross-sector collaboration in supporting survivors.

The day’s programme featured a lineup of experts who addressed a range of topics critical to understanding and responding to domestic abuse. With sessions focused on pressing issues, attendees gained valuable insights to enhance their ability to support survivors and address the complex challenges they face.

As a survivor of domestic abuse, Ellie spoke candidly about the barriers she encountered when seeking justice and the systemic failures that can leave survivors vulnerable. Her presentation, titled "Domestic Abuse, the Justice System, and Rewriting My Story," touched on the key obstacles survivors face, such as financial burdens and the inaccessibility of court transcripts.
